Festivals and Culture

Shreekhandapur's festivals reflect its rich Newar heritage, with guthis managing rituals since ancient times.

Bisket Jatra

The New Year festival features a tree from Mahankal forest erected for seven days. Statues of Ganesh, Kumar, and Bhairav are paraded in chariots. It holds importance like Dashain for locals.

Gai Jatra

Honoring the deceased with processions, humor, and satire. Families participate to remember loved ones, blending grief with celebration.

Navadurga Jatra

A procession of deities, traditionally without fishing in sacred areas to honor Shwet Bhairav. Only four deities are taken out now.
